Wildlife of Madeira 5th to 15th November 2025

Ten days holiday recording wildlife in the area of the Riu Madeira.

Here are some of the highlights of the trip:

Eira do Serrado 1096m altitude

Death's Head Hawkmoth Acherontia atropos - One found on a walk nearby the Hotel

Stripe-eyed Lagoon Flly Eristalinus taeniops - Acouple nectaring on plants near the hotel

Madeiran Chaffinch - Fairly common around the island

Stomorhina lunata - A small number nectaring on plants near the hotel

Barbary Spurge Hawkmoth - A couple to light on hotel balcony

Purple Marbled Eublema ostrina - Regularly to light on hotel balcony

Banded Garden Spider Agriope trifasciata - Regularly found around the island
